Kota Kinabalu | Malaysia

Kota Kinabalu (Jawi: کوتا کينا بالو‎, Chinese: 亚庇; pinyin: Yàbì), formerly known as Jesselton, is the capital of the state of Sabah, located in East Malaysia. It is also the capital of the West Coast Division of Sabah. The city is located on the northwest coast of Borneo facing the South China Sea. The Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park lies to its west and Mount Kinabalu, which gave the city its name, is located to its east. Kota Kinabalu has a population of 452,058 and, including the adjacent Penampang and Putatan districts, the metro area has an estimated population of 628,725.

Kota Kinabalu is often known as KK both in Malaysia and internationally. It is a major fishing destination and a popular gateway for travellers visiting Sabah and Borneo. Kinabalu Park is located about 90 kilometres from the city and there are many other tourist attractions in and around the city. Kota Kinabalu is also one of the major industrial and commercial centres of East Malaysia. These two factors combine to make Kota Kinabalu one of the fastest growing cities in Malaysia. [wikipedia]

125 anniversary of Malayan Railway

Well...it's been a while since I last wrote here..I was down with flu and today I'm getting ready for a roadtrip to Ioannina in Northern Greece! But, a have a little bit of time to upload ona or two postcards before I leave :)

This card was sent to me by Aamea from Malaysia as a private swap. This is a collectors item, as I would call it, since it was issued [both the card and the stamps] as an anniversary celebration of the 125 years of Malayan Railway.

Tanjung Rhu

This card was sent to me by Shu Yi as a private swap.

It is a sunset at Tanjung Rhu, a pristine beach area to the north of Langkawi Island. It looks amazing! I hope I'll visit it someday :)

Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah, which is adjacent to the Thai border. On July 15, 2008, Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah had consented to the change of name to Langkawi Permata Kedah in conjunction with his Golden Jubilee Celebration. By far the largest of the islands is the eponymous Pulau Langkawi with a population of some 64,792, the only other inhabited island being nearby Pulau Tuba. Langkawi is also an administrative district with the town of Kuah as the capital and largest town. Langkawi is a duty-free island - very very interesting :P . [wikipedia]
